Our Curriculum

We are dedicated to providing a nurturing and balanced learning environment that supports the religious and academic growth of each child. Our curriculum is designed to foster a love for learning while adhering to the principles of Islam, ensuring that children grow in both knowledge and faith. We aim to instill a strong foundation in Islamic values, ethics, and academic skills, all while preparing children for success in both this world and the hereafter.

Islamic Curriculum

Our Islamic curriculum is rooted in the Quran and Sunnah, strictly adhering to authentic sources to provide children with a solid understanding of their faith. The content is carefully selected to reflect the values and teachings of Islam, ensuring children are introduced to the core principles of the religion in an age-appropriate and engaging manner. The key subjects include:

Qur’aan Memorisation & Tafseer:

Fostering a love for the Quran through memorisation of short Surahs and teaching their meanings (Tafseer) to help children understand the profound messages of the Quran.

Seerah & Hadith

Introducing children to the life of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ through simple, authentic stories that highlight his exemplary character and teachings. Children will also be introduced to basic, authentic Hadith that illustrate the Sunnah in daily life.

Aqeedah
(Islamic Beliefs)

Teaching the fundamental beliefs of Islam, based on authentic sources from the Quran and Sunnah with the understanding of the Salaf as Saalih (pious predecessors).

Adhkar (Rememberances):

Encouraging children to learn, understand and memorise key Duas, with an emphasis on their meanings and significance. This practice helps children establish a personal connection with Allah ﷻ from an early age.

Morals & Manners

Instilling core Islamic values such as sincerity, kindness, respect, honesty, and empathy. Children will learn the importance of good manners and ethical behavior, as taught in the Quran and authentic Sunnah.

Arabic Language

Introducing children to the Arabic language through the Qaaidah (Arabic phonics and pronunciation), vocabulary building, and simple language skills. This enables children to read and understand the Quran and Sunnah along with other authentic works, fostering a deeper connection to Islam.

Our Islamic curriculum is carefully designed to align with the Quran and Sunnah, using authentic sources to ensure that children are taught the true and pure teachings of Islam from the earliest age.

Academic Curriculum

Our academic curriculum is based on a modified version of the Trinidad and Tobago Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) curriculum, ensuring that children receive a well-rounded education that promotes their cognitive, social, and emotional development. We integrate the key areas of academic learning with Islamic values, providing a balanced approach to education. The eight areas of learning include:

Personal, Social, and Emotional Development

Children will develop self-awareness, emotional regulation, and the ability to form positive relationships with others. Activities are designed to encourage empathy, respect, and cooperation, in line with Islamic principles of kindness and mutual respect.

Life Skills

Fostering essential life skills, such as decision-making, problem-solving, and personal responsibility. Children will also learn about basic hygiene, safety, and resilience, guided by the Islamic teachings of self-care and responsibility.

Language and Literacy

Focusing on the development of speaking, listening, and early literacy skills. Children will engage with stories and simple reading activities, building a love for language while integrating Islamic vocabulary and expressions.

Mathematical Concepts

Introducing children to early mathematical concepts such as numbers, shapes, patterns, and measurements. These concepts are taught in a hands-on and enjoyable way, encouraging problem-solving and critical thinking.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

Children will explore their surroundings, learning about the natural world, seasons, and living things. Activities will encourage curiosity, exploration, and understanding, helping children recognize the signs of Allah’s creation.

Physical Development

Promoting the development of both fine and gross motor skills through a variety of physical activities. Children will engage in play, movement, and coordination exercises to build strength, balance, and coordination, promoting health and wellness in line with the Islamic emphasis on taking care of the body.

Creative Development

Encouraging creativity through arts, crafts and imaginative play. Children will explore their creativity in a variety of forms, developing their ability to express themselves while appreciating the beauty of Allah’s creation.

Spiritual and Moral Development

Instilling a deep sense of belief and ethical behavior through daily teachings of Islam. Children will learn about the importance of sincerity, humility, gratitude, and respect for others, grounded in the Quranic and prophetic teachings.

Integrated Thematic and Project-Based Approach

Our curriculum is delivered through thematic and project-based learning, where different areas of knowledge are integrated around a central theme. This approach encourages children to make connections across various subjects, enhancing their understanding and engagement. Through these themes and projects, children will explore real-world concepts and deepen their understanding of both academic subjects and Islamic beliefs.

By integrating Islamic teachings with academic learning, we ensure that children grow not only in knowledge and skills but also in their connection to Allah ﷻ and His revelations. This holistic approach prepares children for a successful life both in this world and in the hereafter.

At The Doors of Knowledge Academy (DOKA), we believe in the importance of partnership between the home, the school, and the community. We are committed to supporting each child’s development, and we look forward to working with you to nurture your child’s growth in both knowledge and faith.

This curriculum is built upon the foundation of the Quran and Sunnah, ensuring that the education provided is authentic, meaningful, and aligned with Islamic beliefs, while also meeting academic standards for early childhood development. Our curriculum does not include music, dancing or singing nor do we celebrate anything outside of Eid Ul Fitr and Eid Ul Adha.
